Tipping a Limo Chauffeur

There are a large number of limo service providers operating these days and offer limos for hire for several occasions. The hired limos are driven by expert and professional chauffeurs. The chauffeurs are in fact an important aspect of a limo ride. The chauffeurs driving the limos are responsible for the safety of the passengers riding in the limo. It is therefore essential that the limo service providers when renting out limos ensure that only licensed and trained chauffeurs drive the limos.

The experienced chauffeurs are aware of the needs and requirements of the passengers and therefore can assure a comfortable ride. In addition, the chauffeurs driving the limos must always be helpful so that in case of need they can help the passengers. Limo service providers also make sure that the chauffeurs driving the limos have valid licenses and permits.

The passengers travelling in the limos also need to treat the chauffeurs with respect and in a proper manner. They are required not to shout and not to abuse at the chauffeurs. In fact, the passengers need to make sure that they do not disturb the chauffeur at any time during the ride. Most passengers also need to know that once the ride is over, they must tip the chauffeurs of the limos. The general tipping rate is 15% to 20% of the ride. There are however a few things that need to be considered before tipping the chauffeur:

  • Car size: Limo service providers maintain different vehicles in their fleet. The vehicles are also of different sizes. The tip of the chauffeur also depends on the car size. If the limo is a small one, the chauffeurs can be tipped 10-15 % of the total ride. For stretch limos and bigger sized limos, the tipping rate is between 15% and 20%.
  • Trip duration: The duration of the ride is also detrimental in deciding upon the tip that must be given to a chauffeur. For a short ride of about 30 to 40 minutes, 15% tip is enough while for a linger ride of more than an hour, the chauffeurs may be tipped 20% or more.
  • Time of the day: When limos are hired for day time, the chauffeurs can be tipped between 10% and 15%. However, for night rides in limos, the chauffeurs expect more tips and must be paid 20% or more of the total ride as tip.
  • Chauffeur quality: The tipping also depends on whether the chauffeur is a good one or not. Passengers not only see the experience and driving capabilities of chauffeurs but also their manners and courtesy when tipping them. Chauffeurs who are highly courteous are generally paid more.
